Team Working

It is essential that all staff at BrisDoc work together as a team. Every role counts and no job can effectively operate on a standalone basis.

We therefore believe the following attributes are essential for effective team working:

  • Sharing information appropriately
  • Valuing all colleagues
  • Recognising when someone has done something well
  • Saying “thank you”
  • Encouraging one another
  • Supporting colleagues who have problems with performance, conduct or health
  • Motivating one another
  • Being gracious towards one another when mistakes are made and seeing errors as opportunities to learn rather than as defects in personalities
  • Being polite to one another
  • Handling conflict well i.e. if there is a disagreement between individuals, it should be dealt with quickly and in a professional manner, not in view of patients or other staff
  • Being approachable
  • Quick to apologise when necessary
  • Respecting the skills and contributions of colleagues
  • Communicating effectively with colleagues within and outside the team
  • Valuing diversity – not being discriminatory in any way
  • Not bullying or harassing in any way

 

You can expect your manager to: Your manager can expect you to:
Be honest and open with you. Leave cynicism behind, it is easy to criticise, much harder to support.
Lead from the front and set an example of good behaviour. Care about your work and your colleagues.
Allow you room to make appropriate decisions. Work with management to achieve the goals of the business in giving excellent patient service and exceeding targets within budget.
Listen to and act on, your reasonable ideas and suggestions. Do more than the minimum required for your everyday work, particularly to help patients or colleagues. Always give your best.
Coach, encourage, challenge and give regular feedback in a constructive manner so that you are able to monitor your performance. Come up with ideas to improve the business and communicate these to your manager.
Set you reasonable and achievable objectives (PDR). Have the courage to question management when you reasonably disagree with plans or policies.
Set a standard of excellence in all aspects of his or her work. Aim for excellence in all aspects of your work.

Support you when problems arise and where possible seek ways to prevent them re-occurring rather than finding a person to blame. Challenge colleagues if they are not supporting the team. Be encouraging and constructive
