Gestational diabetes recalls  SOP

This recall is intended for use to ensure a fasting blood glucose test occurs  6 weeks after a woman has given birth (if she had gestational diabetes).

  1. Run monthly recall list (automatically run on 1st of every month) looking for recalls in the previous month.

  1. Go into patient record and check investigations for a fasting glucose which should be at least 6 weeks after woman has given birth. If the test has been done already then delete the gestational diabetes recall and ensure they have a high risk of diabetes/pre-diabetes/non-diabetic hyperglycaemia problem coded. This will ensure that they are recalled under the Ardens recall system for an annual HbA1c in their birthday month. If there is an Ardens diary recall for fasting glucose, complete it. Move to next patient on list.

  1. If patient has not had a fasting glucose since giving birth, the patient is due a gestational diabetes recall. Send a text message to patient asking to make an appointment for a fasting blood test. Use template ‘Gestational Diabetes Recall’ – you will need to add the self-book link to the text, choosing F2F appt and ‘Bloods over 16 HCA’ slot type. Using the Ardens diary recall add a fasting glucose test for the date it was due. This will ensure that they get called again if they do not make this appointment.

  1. Rerun the list – it should be 0.
