Purpose
The purpose of this document is to describe the Standard Operating Procedure and IPC measures required for managing patients with Notifiable, Infectious or High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID). This SOP must be used for all people with suspected/confirmed cases of these groups of diseases. It includes definitions of categories of clinical diseases, guidance on Health Protection Team (HPT) notification, and national and local IPC guidance.
Clinical guidance for the management of these cases is out of scope of this document but can be found on the BrisDoc Clinical Toolkit, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Remedy or National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance.
Clinicians are responsible for ensuring that the correct PPE is worn for face-to-face assessment and the subsequent cleaning of equipment as set out in this section of the SOP.
