BrisDoc’s Commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
At BrisDoc, we are dedicated to developing an inclusive workplace and services. Across 2023/24, we have endeavoured to create an environment where each person is appreciated, and their contributions are recognised. Our organisational ethos is built on fairness and respect, with policies that reflect our commitment to eliminating discrimination and embracing diversity at every level.
Pride in Inclusion
In 2023, BrisDoc made a visible statement of support for the LGBTQ+ community. A significant number of our team members participated in the Bristol Pride parade, proudly carrying the BrisDoc LGBTQ+ banner. Additionally, we have decorated one of our Urgent Care home visiting cars with the Pride colours permanently, signalling our ongoing support. We are dedicated to enhancing the support for our LGBTQ+ staff, patients, and the wider community through ongoing training and awareness initiatives, with plans to further these efforts in the forthcoming year.
Reflecting on Our Culture
The feedback from our ‘Our Voice’ co-owner survey is a testament to the culture we are building. With a remarkable 95.2% of colleagues agreeing that our teams are inclusive and uphold dignity and respect, it’s clear that our efforts to nurture an inclusive workplace are resonating with our staff.
Gender Pay Equity
Our recent Mean Gender Pay Gap report indicates a gap of 1.4%, with the mean average pay for men slightly higher than that for women. This difference largely stems from the greater number of women in our workforce opting for more flexible working hours. With 71.7% of our workforce being female, and an average working week of 22 hours compared to the 25 hours for our male colleagues, these choices impact the average pay calculations. Notably, women are well-represented in leadership roles within BrisDoc, with 72.4% of our management positions held by women, and 60% representation on the Corporate Leadership team.
Diversity Beyond Numbers
We understand that a diverse workforce enhances our ability to deliver quality healthcare services that cater to the unique needs of our diverse patient population. Our workforce is ethnically more diverse than our operating region.
We recognise that currently, 5.4% of our staff report have a disability, which is less than the national average of 20% for working people in the UK. We are committed to increasing this number to better reflect the wider community.
Looking Ahead
The publication of our Equality, Diversity, & Inclusion Strategy on our website marks our continued pledge to uphold these values for both our patients and our workforce. Over the next year, our focus will be on enhancing the precision of our workforce ED&I data, refining our initiatives, and evolving our processes to provide even stronger support for our colleagues.
By constantly improving and adapting, we aim to maintain BrisDoc’s position as a leader in delivering compassionate and equitable healthcare services.
