Change & Uncertainty
Charlotte Keel Medical Practice (CKMP) has seen lots of change and uncertainty over 23/24.
Starting with the CKMP procurement; We were all devastated to learn that BrisDoc’s bid had been unsuccessful, and we were to transfer over to OneMedicare.
What followed was lots of hard work from the Practice team and BrisDoc to ensure a smooth changeover. This ultimately ended on a double-edged sword when OneMedicare decided not to continue with the procurement. However, this left the Practice in limbo as to who would be responsible for the services going forward?
To our delight, agreement was eventually negotiated to allow BrisDoc to continue running CKMP for 2 more years, while we explore ‘The Art of the Possible’ with the ICB. This work is underway to find improved ways of working, whilst also demonstrating to the ICB, what makes us unique as a Practice. This will include lots of transformational work for the Practice.
Internal Leadership Changes
We sadly said goodbye to Jane Isaac, our Practice Manager, and Liz Turner, our Lead nurse. Both of whom are hopefully enjoying their retirement. (Although we did manage to entice Liz back as a bank Practice Nurse!)
Hayley Fisher stepped into the role of Interim Practice Manager, and Kerry Hall and Claudia Filipe stepped up into an Interim Operations Manager job share.
Angela Pym stepped up to the role of Interim Lead Nurse for 1 year, which ends in July 24 and recruitment has started for her replacement.
Dr Shaba Nabi stepped down from her Lead Team role to focus on her new role as Chair of our Local Medical Committee (LMC). Dr Andrea Priestley continues as Lead GP however now in a sole capacity.
Recruitment Struggles
Staffing has been a big issue this year. We have had repeated failed recruitments in nurse team and lots of sickness in the Health Nav team, and 3 GP’s on maternity leave.
This resulted in us having to postpone our recalls for a month and also affected our Mental Health QOF performance over the summer months.
This also led to us implementing a new Access process for total triage and a new Clinical Assessment Process. Whilst we are continually reviewing and tweaking, feedback has been positive from the GP and Health Nav teams so far.
Looking Ahead
We now look to the future, the Practice almost at 20,000 patients, and will continue to support the team through these times of change.
