Severnside IUC has not been commissioned to provide a response to walk-in patients.
Severnside will occasionally experience patients who self-present at a known Treatment Centres without seeking advice or clinical triage via NHS 111.
If a patient self presents to the Treatment Centre without having gone through NHS111 they should be treated politely, helpfully and most of all kindly.
The patient should be encouraged to phone NHS 111 or use NHS111 online. Let them know it is a free-phone number and allow them to phone from the waiting room, if needed. This allows them to stay on site until they have been triaged by NHS111. Apologise that you can’t book them in but explain that NHS111 are able to triage and pass their details through to Severnside if appropriate.
However, if you have any concerns that the patient needs to be seen promptly, please speak to the Shift Manager. If the patient looks obviously unwell refer to the Host ‘Red Flag’ guide and ask the opinion of a clinical colleague.
For more information please refer to the Host Handbook.
