Our Patients

Who Are Our Patients?

SevernSide IUC service provides care to the following patents:

  • ANYONE registered with a GP in Bristol, North Somerset or South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) REGARDLESS of where they live. Please see the practice register on the Clinical Toolkit, or in the relevant role handbooks
  • Prisoners at HMP Bristol, HMP Ashfield and HMP Leyhill, and young offenders at Vinney Green
  • Any person occupying a bed in a community hospital, nursing home, care home, mental health or residential facility
  • Anyone who is a temporary resident in BNSSG in need of urgent and necessary treatment
  • Patients referred by NHS111 or other healthcare professionals and, in exceptional circumstances, walk-in patients

If a patient resides outside our usual area but is registered with a BNSSG practice then we have a duty of care to that patient.  However, if a telephone consultation with that patient results in the need for a home visit that can present practical problems.

If the journey time is likely to impact significantly on the ability of our service to deliver timely care then the shift manager may liaise with the Out of Hours provider for that service to negotiate a transfer of care. However, the patient is ultimately the responsibility of SevernSide.
