Our Urgent Care System

SevernSide IUC service does not exist alone – it is very much part of an Urgent Care “system”, and we work in partnership with many other providers.  It is important that between us we offer a “joined up” service so that when patients need to transfer between services the transition is smooth and problem free. Many patients are not aware that urgent care is delivered by many different providers and see the different services as all being part of the NHS. Regular meetings are held in across our areas which are attended by all providers as well as the Integrated Care Board who commission our service.

Severnside is a key cog in the BNSSG urgent care wheel, as such we are actively seeking new innovative ways to care for patients.  An example of this is the System Clinical Assessment Service (SCAS) and Mental Health CAS.

  • The System CAS manages patients from NHS111 who would otherwise have been directed to ED or a 999 ambulance.  The System CAS clinicians find alternative care to hospital for over 80% of these patients.
  • The award winning Mental Health CAS offers specialist MH remote assessment for people who are calling 111 as part of a multidisciplinary team. This includes the use of video consultation and could include informing the appropriate dispatch or stand down of an ambulance, or primary care prescribing.
